Στο πλαίσιο του “Athens Skank Iwah” και της διοργάνωσης Soundsystem Events με καλεσμένους από το εξωτερικό, το Σάββατο 9 Μαρτίου, το Dub Relief Soundsystem με μεγάλη χαρά και ενθουσιασμό, φιλοξενεί έναν θρύλο της UK dubwise μουσικής, όπως είναι ο Jonah Dan, ιδρυτής και συνεχιστής του Inner Sanctuary studio & Label. Μαζί του θα είναι ο εξαιρετικός microphone specialist & toaster Junior Dread, ο οποίος  με σταθερή παρουσία στη Soundsystem σκηνή της Αγγλίας όλα αυτά τα χρόνια, έχει πραγματοποιήσει συνεργασίες με κορυφαία ονόματα του χώρου, όπως τον King Earthquake, το Masaai Warrior και πολλούς ακόμη κορυφαίους και καταξιωμένους καλλιτέχνες του είδους.  

Για δεύτερη φορά σε αυτή τη season, το event θα πραγματοποιηθεί στον εξαιρετικά φιλόξενο χώρο του Ilion Plus στην Κυψέλη για μια βραδιά προσανατολισμένη στη Soundsystem και Dubwise μουσική κουλτούρα της Αγγλίας και πιο συγκεκριμένα του Λονδίνου απ’ όπου έρχονται και οι δύο εκλεκτοί guests.

Ο Kheru Jahman Jonah Dan είναι παραγωγός δίσκων/συνθέτης τραγουδιών με τη δική του δισκογραφική, την Inner Sanctuary, από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1990 και είναι ένας ένθερμος εκπρόσωπος του Reggae/Dub με πολλές κυκλοφορίες στο όνομά του. Ένα από τα αναγνωρισμένα κομμάτια του είναι το βαρύ "Meditation Rock" το οποίο λέγεται ότι είναι ένα σύγχρονο κλασικό instrumental dub. Είναι ένα από τα αρχικά ιδρυτικά μέλη μαζί με τους "Bush Chemist" και "Russ Disciples" για την προώθηση της Roots/Dub μουσικής στην Ευρώπη και στο διεθνές κύκλωμα από το 1995. Μεταξύ 2013 και 2015 ο Jonah πήγε για περαιτέρω σπουδές στο "London School of contemporary Arts", από όπου αποφοίτησε με πιστοποιητικό HND στα δημιουργικά μέσα ενημέρωσης. Έκανε production ως βιντεογράφος και μοντέρ, και τώρα κινηματογραφεί διάφορες πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις, μόδα-επιδείξεις μόδας, καθώς και μουσικά βίντεο.

Από την αρχή του νέου Dub error της δεκαετίας του 1990 ήταν ο κύριος percussionist του και έχει εμφανιστεί σε αμέτρητες ανεξάρτητες εταιρίες και έχει εμφανιστεί σε πολλές ζωντανές εμφανίσεις με τους Bush Chemist, Russ Disciple, Alpha & Omega συμπεριλαμβανομένων των Dub Dynasty και "ως ιδρυτικό μέλος των" Shades of Black, κερδίζοντας κάποια στιγμή το τον τίτλο του πιο καταγεγραμμένου percussionist Reggae/ Dub εκτός Τζαμάικα. Εμφανίζεται επίσης ως Dj selector και mic chanter (MC). Δεν πέρασε πολύς καιρός από τότε που που τον κάλεσαν να κάνει μερικά shout outs σε ένα κομμάτι του Longsey D, ο οποίος ήταν ένας από τους κύριους εκφραστές της περιόδου Skacid στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του 1980.

Ο Jonah έχει συνεργαστεί με μερικούς από τους κορυφαίους θρυλικούς καλλιτέχνες της Reggae της Τζαμάικα, όπως οι Gregory Isaacs, Linval Thompson, Price Allah, Horace Martin, Bunny Lie Lie, συμπεριλαμβανομένης μιας μεγάλης ποικιλίας καλλιτεχνών του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου, συμπεριλαμβανομένης μιας Γαλλίδας καλλιτέχνιδας που ονομάζεται Messalie και εμφανίστηκε στο Inner Sanctuary. Άλλα σημεία-κλειδιά στο όνομά του είναι η συνεργασία του με τον πληκτρά του Bob Marley, Wire Lindo. 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗(UK):

Ο Junior Dread μπήκε στον κόσμο της μουσικής και των ηχοσυστημάτων στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '70 - αρχές της δεκαετίας του '80 ως selector και operator ενός από τα μεγαλύτερα ηχοσυστήματα στο νότιο Λονδίνο, του Lord David. Αφού έπαιξε για αρκετά χρόνια τον Lord David, αυτός αποσύρθηκε και ο junior βρέθηκε σε αδιέξοδο. Συνδέθηκε γρήγορα με ένα sound από το Brixton που ονομαζόταν Aquarius the ravers unit. Ο Junior εδραίωσε και πάλι το ρόλο του ως ο νέος selector και operator και για αυτό το ηχοσύστημα, γύρω στο 82/83. Εκείνη την εποχή ο Junior έπαιζε έναν προενισχυτή baby blues και ήθελε τον δικό του. Έτσι γνώρισε τον Barracuda και έφτιαξε τον δικό του προενισχυτή το 1985 που ήταν ο dub master pre. Τότε είχαμε σταθεροποιηθεί. Μετά από μερικά χρόνια οι περισσότεροι από τους sound man είχαν φύγει λόγω οικογενειακών δεσμών και έτσι ο Junior έφερε το δικό του crew για να τρέξει τον ήχο Aquarius που γινόταν αρκετά δημοφιλής. Είχαμε δώσει πίσω τον εξοπλισμό και συνεχίσαμε ως Aquarius καθώς είχαμε τον δικό μας εξοπλισμό. Ο Junior βρέθηκε σε δίλημμα. Οι αρχικοί Aquarius ήθελαν πίσω το όνομα του ήχου τους, οπότε ο junior πανικοβλήθηκε καθώς όλοι τους γνώριζαν ως Aquarius. Έτσι, άλλαξε το όνομα σε Aquarius the Governor και τους έδωσε πίσω το όνομα χωρίς φασαρία, πράγμα που ήταν καλό. Ο Τζούνιορ δεν ήταν ευχαριστημένος που εξακολουθούσε να έχει το όνομα Aquarius και έτσι άλλαξε ολόκληρο το όνομα σε Governor Turbo Matic. Σε όλη τη δεκαετία του '90, οι Governor έπαιζαν βόρεια, νότια, ανατολικά και δυτικά του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου. Παίζοντας clash dances revival και ακόμη και stage shows και roots dances τα έκαναν όλα μέχρι τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90.  Στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 2000 ο junior γνώρισε τον mostec, ο οποίος τον ενθάρρυνε να αναπτύξει τη δραστηριότητά του ως τραγουδιστής και mc. Αμέσως μετά δημιουργήθηκε μια συνεργασία με τον King Earthquake, ο οποίος είχε κάνει δύο τραγούδια με τον Junior, το Heavely Father και το Praise up Jahoviah στην ετικέτα του King Earthquake. Από τότε έχει συνεργαστεί με τους παραγωγούς Jonah Dan, Roots Hi Tek και mask-ski productions. Ο Junior ταξίδεψε στην Ευρώπη ξεκινώντας από τη δεκαετία του 2000 με τον Mostec για να μάθει να αναπτύσσει την τέχνη του και επέστρεψε στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο πεινασμένος για περισσότερη γνώση. Ζήτησε από τον mostec αν θα μπορούσε να βοηθήσει να κάνει κάποια δουλειά για να τον βοηθήσει στην κατασκευή pre amp, καθώς ο Junior ήθελε να καταλάβει πώς λειτουργούν τα πράγματα από μέσα, αντί να τα παίζει απλά και ο Mark συμφώνησε να παρέχει κάποια βοήθεια. Μετά από λίγο, στα επόμενα χρόνια ο junior είχε δουλέψει για πολλά ηχοσυστήματα, συμπεριλαμβανομένου του καλού του φίλου Paul Maasai Warrior από το Μπρίστολ. Επίσης με τους Jonah Dan, Jah Tubbys, Trojan 7, Lord Ambaasador στο Reggae Bus Belgium, Emperor Fari στην Ευρώπη, Petah Sunday του Ital-Soup, στο baba boom festival της Ιταλίας, στο Dub Gathering του King Shiloh, Boris France Roots Ting, Tarn στο Dub Kullar France, Travel sound στο Ludo France, Sanga Mama Africa στη Γαλλία, Nebotty Roots, Dub Camp, Black Board Jungle, για να αναφερθούν μερικοί. Το 2019 ο Junior συμμετείχε σε μια νέα μουσική αποστολή όπου το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο συναντά τη Γαλλία σε μια reggae κολεκτίβα, όπου και οι δύο ξεκινούσαν ένα νέο soundsystem. Ο Junior Dread έχει ένα νέο soundsystem με έδρα τη Γαλλία που ονομάζεται Turbo Matic Roots, το οποίο εδρεύει πλέον στο Μονπελιέ και το νέο soundsystem της Γαλλίας ονομάζεται Lightning Soundsystem με τον Tias Dubwise, στη νέα συνεργασία που ονομάζεται world a reggae.

𝗗𝗨𝗕 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗙 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠

Το Dub Relief δημιουργήθηκε το καλοκαίρι του 2018 στην Αθήνα με στόχο τη διάδοση της roots reggae-dub μουσικής στην πόλη. Ήδη από τους πρώτους μήνες του 2019 η ομάδα είχε επηρεαστεί φανερά από την Soundsystem κουλτούρα και ξεκίνησε το ταξίδι για την υλοποίηση ενός χειροποίητου Mini Soundsystem, το οποίο και έγινε πραγματικότητα τον Νοέμβριο του 2019. Η συνέχεια του ταξιδιού αυτού, μας έκανε να υλοποιήσουμε το μεγάλο μας όνειρο, την δημιουργία του Πρώτου Tower τον Σεπτέμβριο του 2021. Φτάνοντας αισίως στο 2024, το Dub Relief Soundsystem είναι το πρώτο ηχοσύστημα στην Ελλάδα το οποίο δοκίμασε και εφάρμοσε την τεχνολογία των 18” Paraflex Subs. Μέσα σε αυτήν την πορεία το Dub Relief έχει συμμετάσχει και συνδιοργανωσει βραδιές με τα περισσότερα ηχοσυστήματα στην Ελλάδα και έχει διοργανώσει events με σπουδαία ονόματα της Reggae - Dub Soundsystem σκηνής, όπως είναι ο Ras Lion (Lion’s Den Soundsystem), ο Wassie One και προσεχώς ο Jonah Dan μαζί με τον Junior Dread.

Από τότε μέχρι και σήμερα η ομάδα προσπαθεί να επικοινωνήσει τα σημαντικότερα μηνύματα της reggae μουσικής όπως είναι η ειρήνη, η αγάπη και η ενότητα, διαδίδοντας τα πάντα μέσω του Soundsystem Culture.

As part of the "Athens Skank Iwah" and the Soundsystem Events with international guests, on Saturday 9th of March, Dub Relief Soundsystem with great pleasure and enthusiasm, hosts a legend of UK’s dubwise music, such as Jonah Dan, founder and successor of Inner Sanctuary studio & Label. He will be joined by microphone specialist & toaster extraordinaire Junior Dread, who with a steady presence in the UK Soundsystem scene over the years, has worked with some of the top names in the industry, including King Earthquake, Masaai Warrior and many more of the genre's leading and established artists.  

For the second time this season, the event will take place at the extremely welcoming space of Ilion Plus in Kypseli for a night oriented towards the Soundsystem and Dubwise music culture of the UK and more specifically London, the place where both of our special guests are coming from.

Kheru Jahman Jonah Dan has been a record producer/song writer with his own Inner Sanctuary recording studio and label since the early 1990's and is a keen exponent of Reggae/Dub music with numerous releases to his name. One of his acclaimed tracks is the heavy weight “Meditation Rock” which is said to be a modern day instrumental dub classic. He is one of the original founding members alongside “Bush Chemist” and “Russ Disciples” to promote Roots/Dub music in Europe and on the international circuit from 1995. Between 2013 and 2015 Jonah went in for further studies at the “London School of contemporary Arts”, where he graduated with a HND certificate in creative Media Production as a videographer and editor, and now films various cultural events, fashion shows, also making music videos.

From the beginning of the new Dub error of the 1990's he has been the main go to percussionist and has appeared on countless independent labels and has performed on many live shows with Bush Chemist, Russ Disciple, Alpha & Omega including Dub Dynasty and “as a founding member of'' Shades of Black, at one time earning himself the title, the most recorded Reggae/ Dub percussionist outside of Jamaica. He also performs as a Dj selector and mic chanter (MC). During the 1980's Jonah was a member of the multi-cultural outfit called “Street Service'' who played a fusion of various style such as Reggae, punk, blues with rock elements, performing around the London pub circuit and at one time was scouted by the A&R management of the band “Sting”. It wasn't long after that he was called to do some shout outs on a Longsey D track, who was one of the main exponents of the Skacid period during the late 1980's.

Jonah has worked with some of the top legendary Reggae artists of Jamaica such as Gregory Isaacs, Linval Thompson, Price Allah, Horace Martin, Bunny Lie Lie, including a great assortment of UK artists including a French female artist called Messalie who appeared on his Inner Sanctuary label. Other key points to his name is working alongside Bob Marley's keyboard player Wire Lindo. In 2019 he completed a 3 year study in music production and graduated receiving a BA Honours degree at the university of “The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance”.

𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗(UK):

Junior dread entered the world of music and soundsystem in the late 70s - early 80s as a selector and operator from one of the biggest soundsystems in south London, Lord David. After playing Lord David for a good few years he retired and Junior was at a loss. He quickly linked up with a sound from Brixton called Aquarius the ravers unit. Junior again astablished his role as the new selector and operator for this sound too, around 82/83. At the time junior was playing a baby blues pre amp and wanted his own. So he met barracuda and got his own pre amp built in 1985 which was the dub master pre. Then we were stablished. After a few years most of the sound man had left due to family ties so junior bought in his own crew to run Aquarius sound which was getting quite popular. We had given back there equipment and carried on as Aquarius as we had our own equipment. Dilemma struck for junior. The original Aquarius wanted there sound name back so Junior was in a panic as everybody knew them as Aquarius. So he changed the name to Aquarius the Governor and gave them there sound name back with no fuss, which was good. Junior wasn't happy with still having the name Aquarius so he changed the whole name to the Governor Turbo Matic. All through the 90s, Governor was playing north, south, east and west of the U.K. Playing clash dances revival and even stage shows and roots dances they did it all up unto the late 90s. In  the early 2000s junior met mostec who encouraged him to develop his activity as a singer and mc. Shortly after a caleberation was astablished with King Earthquake who had made two songs with junior, Heavely Father and Praise up Jahoviah on the King Earthquake label. Since then he has worked with producers Jonah Dan, Roots Hi Tek and mask-ski productions. Junior has travelled Europe starting in the 2000s with mostec to learn to grow his craft, and came back to the U.K. hungry for more knowledge. He asked mostec if he could help in doing some work to help him pre amp building as Junior wanted to understand on how things work on the inside instead of just playing them and Mark agreed for some assistance. After a while, in the years to come Junior had worked for a lot of sounds including his good friend Paul Maasai Warrior from Bristol. Also Jonah Dan, Jah Tubbys, Trojan 7, Lord Ambaasador at Reggae Bus Belgium, Emperor Fari in Europe, Petah Sunday of Ital-Soup, in Italy's baba boom festival, in King Shiloh's Dub Gathering, Boris France Roots Ting, Tarn in Dub Kullar France, Travel sound in Ludo France, Sanga Mama Africa in France, Nebotty Roots, Dub Camp, Black Board Jungle, just to mention a few. In 2019 Junior was involved in a new musical mission where U.K. meets France in the world a reggae collective, where both were launching there new soundsystem. Junior Dread has a new soundsystem based in France called Turbo Matic Roots, which is now based in Montpellier and France's new soundsystem is called Lightning Soundsystem with Tias Dubwise, in the new collaboration called world a reggae.

𝗗𝗨𝗕 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗙 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠

Dub Relief was created in Athens, in the summer of 2018 with the aim of spreading roots reggae-dub music in the city. Early in 2019, the crew had already been influenced by Soundsystem culture and set off on the journey of building a handmade Mini Soundsystem, which was completed in November of 2019. The continuation of this journey, made us accomplish our big dream, the creation of our First Tower in September of 2021. Approaching 2024, Dub Relief Soundsystem is the first soundsystem in Greece that tested and applied the technology of 18" Paraflex Subs. During this time Dub Relief has participated and co-organized sessions with many soundsystems in Greece and has organized events with great names of the Reggae - Dub Soundsystem scene, such as Ras Lion (Lion's Den Soundsystem), Wassie One and soon Jonah Dan together with Junior Dread.

From way back then until today the crew seeks to communicate the most crucial messages of reggae music such as peace, love and unity, spreading them steadily through Soundsystem Culture.
